Fast Forward 1 Year

Time flies when you're out of work and scrambling for every freelance assignment you can search out!

In January of this year (2011) I was starting to miss that slimline after not playing it for a year.

Once again, I was playing at an evening worship service, so I asked if I could borrow the guitar again for a few hours.  I would pick it up, play it, return it.

But things were different this time....

Just Because

Soon after I got back from that weekend, I asked if I could borrow that Telecaster again to play at an evening worship service.

I didn't "need" it. Any of my other guitars would have worked fine.  But I wanted it. I was craving that sound.

Once again, it did not disappoint me.  The tone and feel were really special.

After the service, I returned it and wouldn't see it again for quite a while.

Didn't Know it was a First Step

In October 2009, my sons went away on their annual Stockade ("Christian boy scouts") weekend.

I pulled a band together to lead worship, but I couldn't get there until Saturday afternoon so another dad (who had to be home by Saturday night) played guitar on Friday night.  Instead of me dragging up my gear, we decided that I would just use his stuff since it would be there and set up.

Included in "his stuff" was his son's red Squire slimline Telecaster. I fell in love. It was 100% stock, it was missing the tone knob, and the pickup selector had to be jiggled to get sound to come out whenever I switched pickups, but that thing had the magic and it just sang in my hands.

Starting Point

I'm 45 and have been playing guitar since 2nd grade.

I have an old Les Paul, a "FrankenStrat", an Epiphone G-1275 (double neck), and a Selmer acoustic.

But I never had a Telecaster.....
